Saharsa District is one of the thirty-seven districts of Bihar state, India, and Saharsa town is the administrative headquarters of this district. Saharsa district is a part of Kosi Division and it became a district on 1 April 1954.
Saharsa has distinction of producing greatscholars like Mandan Mishra who was engaged in the historical debate with Shankaracharya.The place surrounded on the west by the river Kosi boasts an abundance of fish,milk, makhana. The great saint "shree shree 108 paramhans goswami laxminath" was born in Parsharma(Saharsa). His big ashram is located in Bangaon.
